Unqualified Advice From Your Wedding Cake Consultant

If only your cake consultant could tell you what she really thinks of your impending nuptials…

I have a sixth sense, which I developed from meeting with hordes of engaged people over the years. And I admit, sometimes I just like to pretend I’m a therapist, and in my head I diagnose problems in people’s relationships.

You see I am a wedding cake decorator and consultant. And while I appear to be busily drawing up a quote for a tower of sugary-goodness, I often find myself listening in to the couple’s interactions. Sometimes I feel like I can see their future after the wedding. A handful of times during a cake consultation I wished I could scream out unsolicited advice at my clients like, “Run!” or “He’s no good for you, I give it six months!”.

If you want to sell cake, it turns out, you really shouldn’t diagnose and/or yell advice at your customers. So instead I have compiled a list of horrific red flags, awkward situations, and terrible behavior, which I have witnessed first hand in the wedding cake business. And because I can’t help myself, I tossed in some bonus unsolicited advice.
